*UPDATE: THE SCREENING HAS PAST, BUT REQUEST A SCREENING OF OUR FILM IN SECOND LIFE AND YOU’LL GET AN EMAIL LETTING YOU KNOW THE NEXT TIME WE SCREEN THERE. ALSO OUR FILM IS AVAILABLE ON DVD. AND FINALLY, WE DO PLAN TO HAVE SPECIAL EVENTS IN SECOND LIFE INCLUDING MORE SCREENINGS OF OUR FILM AND OTHER MATERIAL, SO JOIN SECOND LIFE AND THEN SEARCH FOR AND JOIN OUR GROUP IN SECOND LIFE TO BE A PART OF ALL THAT. BELOW IS THE ORIGINAL POST PROMOTING THIS EVENT.

You’re invited to a free virtual screening

Join us in Second Life for the virtual world premiere of Four Eyed Monsters. We’ll be having a screening of the full feature film on Tuesday, January 9, 2007 at 8pm EST (5pm PST/SLT). Both of us will be there as our avatars and on a live video stream to introduce the film, answer questions and interact with the audience during the screening. Learn more at Secondlife.com

What time is the screening in my time zone?

You can attend the event from anywhere in the world but keep in mind if you’re not on Eastern Standard Time then you should use this converter to find exactly what time the screening is in your time zone. full list.

What if the screening room is full?

Each venue in Second Life will only hold 50 people but thanks to incredible support from second life community, several venues have donated space to syndicate the screening to their virtual venues. You can use the search tool on the map to find any of these venues inside second life or you can click the teleport button next to each venue. Clicking that should launch the second life application and automatically take you there.

Groups

Join the F.E.M. Second Life group to get free objects like shirts, note pads, screening invitations to hand out and more. Search for “Four Eyed Monsters” in the Second Life search tool, under Groups. You can also join the Sundance Channel Group to get invitations to future screenings of other films.

How did this come about?

Per the suggestion of the second life community we added Second Life to the list of places that could request a screening of the film a few months back, and Second Life is now the 6th most requested place for a screening right between Seattle and Washington DC. In December, the Sundance Channel announced they were actually building a screening room to screen independent films. So thanks to the Electric Sheep Company, who has been instrumental in bringing this whole thing together, Four Eyed Monsters will play as the premiere film in the Sundance Channel Island Screening Room.

What if I can’t run Second Life?

Second Life is available on Macintosh, Windows, and Linux, but make sure to check the system requirements. For example our 800 mhz G4 iMac thats 4 years old doesn’t really work that well. But for example our Dual 2.0 ghz G5 Mac that needs to be replaced cause it’s 3 years is plenty fast enough for Second Life. And of course you need DSL/Cable or faster for any of this. But have you have a solid internet connection but not a very fast computer, you can see into whats going on in second life on via this really cool site Destroy TV who will be streaming the event to their page. Also The Grid Review will post video coverage later in the week of how everything goes.

Will there be other chances of viewing a free screening of your movie on Second Life on a different day of the week perhaps? I will be in class and unable to see it on Tues. Jan. 9th, and I have been waiting so long for my city to get enough people to request screening your movie (which it still hasn’t) I don’t want to miss the screening, but I can’t ditch my class or they will drop me from it.

I noticed toward the end of your second life podcast that Arin attempts to sit beside Susan in the theatre, but someone else takes his place and sits there with Arin being forced to sit one over from her. Is there any symbolism in this, or was it just “superbowl rules”, as in the first to sit down gets the seat?
