Production Notes
The film was shot in 14 months surviving on credit cards and buying meals for make shift 1 to to 4 person crews. The film then premiered at Slamdance 2005 and then travled to over 20 more film festivals. At the end of 2005 they launched an online video series that was promoted by MySpace & iTunes and want on to have the first 8 episodes get a total of 1 million views.
Then they launched a DIY theatrical release by asking all of their new online fans to provide their zip codes and then presented a google map to movie theaters showing larger harts above each city with enough demand for a screening to be successful. 6 theaters were convinced of this model and the film was booked the entire month of september every thursday night with more people showing up every week then the previous.
Then they got an official theatrical release at Cinema Village in New York garnering reviews from the Village Voice, New York Times and becoming eligible to for the spirit awards where they recieved two nominations which is unheard of for a film this small in scope.
Then after a becoming the first feature film to screen in Second Life they decided to extend the idea of free online viewing of their film to the entire wordl wide web and became the first feature lenght movie posted to YouTube. To date the film has received over 1 million views and also did well on MySpaceTV, Blip and Stage6.com.
The project is not over. A story about live naturally never ends and the online episodes have extended the story beyond what is in the film and 5 new episodes are set to really bring the project full circle to a closure. These episodes will be released in March of 2008 and then in April a multi Disc DVD will hit stores.
