How to create a Video Comment

There are two ways.

THE EASY WAY:

Click here and then hit record on the screen and start speaking about what you thought of the film.

THE MORE COMPLEX WAY:

1. Decide what you want to say, do you have a simliar story, do you have more information to add, did you have a thought you wanted to share, or do you have any similar footage you want to share. Also it’s okay to plug your own video blogs, podcasts, music or whatever creative endeavor you think our audience might appreciate checking out.

2. Hook up a DV based video camera to your computer using a firewire cable.
An Apple iSight will also work as well as a computer that has a built in video camera.

3. Download and install quicktime 7 pro. This is $29.99 but will come in handy for a bunch of things. Just go to: quicktime.com to download. I should note that if you have Quicktime 7 (not pro) already installed, all you have to do is purchase or get from some place a Quicktime 7 Pro code. That code will unlock the functions of Quicktime.

4. Launch Quicktime Pro 7 and choose “New Movie Recording” from the “File” menu.

5. Record your video into your computer by either playing it back off the camera or recording it live.

6. Then use the little triangle things to select only the part that you want to use. These are start and stop points. Then hit “apple+C”, “apple+N”, and then “apple+V” [Those are the short cuts to copy, create a new quicktime window, and then paste into that new quicktime window]. You could then record other sections and paste them into your audio or video file, but if more editing needs to be done you might want to use video editing software. iMovie is the easiest to learn and comes with any Mac computer but there are other PC options out there that work fine. We edit our stuff in Final Cut Pro which is great for really complicated edits.

7. Once your video is complete, choose “export” from the “file” menu, select a title and save your recording to a spot you will remember on your hard drive. As far as options to export it, we tend to use “iPod Codec (320 by 240)”. But there are other options you can experiment with to get the video to be a certain size if you’d like.

8. If the video is a response to the film you can then click here to attach that video to our Film on YouTube as a video response. Or if it’s a response to an episode just go to that episode on youtube and then hit “post video response”. Then hit “upload file” and navigate to your file to upload it. Once it’s done uploading and processing you can get the code to embed your video in a MySpace bulleting or blog post and you can also get the link to share the video on facebook to let all of your friends know what you thgought of our film. Also it will show up possibly on our site and most likely on the page the film plays on youtube with-in a few days depending on how busy we are. And posting onto our myspace profile and facebook group is also a good thing.

Thats it your done, thanks a bunch!
