Magdyn Osh Show at Pete’s Candy Store

So we heard Magdyn Osh’s music somewhere between episodes 2 and 3 back in November of 05′ and we were like ‘whoa this is cool we should use this’ so we emailed him or myspaced him or whatever and asked for permission to use a song in an episode. He was totally down. Meanwhile we […]

Paper Jones

“Moriarti,” “Collars Up” and “Prolepsis” by Paper Jones - Featured in Episode 7

Susan: so I watch the suicide girls podcast, eye candy with good music. It was the episode with “Kokeshi” and the song they played “moriati” was amazing. Arin and I were floored. At the end of the episode it stated that the music was by Paper Jones. We went to his site and sent him an email telling him how much we like his song and explaining that we did a podcast too and that we’d love to use his music. He sent us a CD with six songs and they were all terrific. We ended up using 3 just in this one episode. He’s out in L.A. now but says he may move to New York City. We’re hoping he does so we can hang. He’s coming out with a new album pretty soon and you can purchase his current album on CD Baby.

Gingerbread Patriots

“The Day I Dies” by Gingerbread Patriots - Featured in Episode 5 -

Susan: We got a message on MySpace about how this guy and his girlfriend watch our episodes on the phone together and start them at the same time so that they can hear each other react. Then three links to some songs. All of which were completely in line with the music we were looking for in the video podcast.

Arin: We almost used 2 songs of theirs and may come back to using more of their music but the edit ended up only needing one, “the day I dies”. The awesome thing about collaborating with gingerbread patriots is we needed a mix with no vocals to put in the first half of the episode where there is a bunch of dialog and they had all the files they needed to do that right on their computer at home and a few hours after we asked for it, there was an mp3 in our in box.

Susan: I wasn’t joking when I said they’re my new favorite, band.

Amanda Casanellas

“My Pride” by Monkey Casanellas
- Featured in Episode 4 -

Arin: I thought this song sounded like it was being sung by a 12 year old boy and fell in love with it.
Susan: I thought it sounded like a some women singing a pretty standard folky song.
Arin: Susan doesn’t appreciate this kind of music but I think its rawness is it’s appeal. And I like it even though I found out it’s not a 12 year old boy, but how amazing would that be right?
Susan: The lyrics are an obvious dead give away, no 12 year old is going to sing about, “being with you last night”… and “cigarettes…”
Arin: The point is I think it worked great in the episode and that it’s awesome this girl that won’t even accept our friend request because she seems to have forgotten about her myspace profile is actually getting substantial exposure because we put her music in the episode.
Susan: An unrequited collaboration.
