I was especially impressed by the beauty of eyes by this movie. I liked how you focussed on the eyes from different angles, and especially caught their shape and the interesting shape and texture of Arin’s eyelashes. The eyes: windows to the soul. I was also struck by the vulnerability of the face, how in some places there was no masks, no barrier between the viewer and yourselves. “Here I am, here is my face, looking at you, no barriers, I cannot protect myself from your love or your hatred, or from whatever you see in me.” Beauty=vulnerablity=nakedness.
Did you consciously take the four eyed monsters metaphor from Aristophanes? If you haven’t, read Aristophane’s speech in Plato’s Symposium. The Phaedrus is also beautiful too (about love).
I’d be interested to know how you look back on yourselves at a later age. I’m sure as you get older there will be parts you will feel are a bit embarrasing or tragic! But still, completely worthwhile. Watching this film managed to help me out of my little bout of depression–even though it was sorta sad in ways.
Funniest part: “I can make lasagne” (was that a real blog or did you make it up?).
Line drawings were great to watch. Good soundtrack.
