“An Artist’s Art-House Movie”
|
KY 1869505 in Brooklyn, NY posted the following comment about our film: Not a lot of people throw the word arty around when concerning movies anymore. Most movies, even summer blockbusters, have a touch of what LOOKS like inspired art direction in them. But Four Eyed Monsters is an artist’s art-house movie, while at the same time appealing to the average movie goer with an inspiring tumultuous love affair. This movie speaks to anyone who looks for love even though they know they’re too dysfunctional to have or to keep it. The characters deal with the reality of love with flaws, and their desire to find some new and original in themselves leads them to create a one-of-a-kind relationship which combines their frailties as people with their strengths as artists. Their successes and more importantly their struggles as a couple mirror their and our hurdles as artists with confidence but without direction. When everyone thinks they’re special and an artist, how does one create art? When everyone believes that true love is not only possible but expected, how does one survive REAL love? These are the questions asked by Four Eyed Monsters. My favorite part of the film was how visual art and inventive film-making showed off the artistic merits of the two protagonists. Stop-motion and other animations compliment the voice-overs and a variety of ballsy camera techniques combine with original music, performance and even dance to make a film that is a feast for the eye. What better way to express the inexpressible struggles artists have with their own minds? Not since Man with a Movie Camera have I felt so strongly that film can go anywhere and do anything as I have here. More than just a flash in the pan indie sensation, this film is a daring and heartfelt exploration of issues near to the hearts of young people. My only hope is that this movie will get continuing raves and the wider audience that it deserves. |
